“True democracy cannot be worked by twenty men sitting at the centre.
It has to be worked from below by the people of every village”
– Mahatma Gandhi
Vallioor Multipurpose Social Service Society, VMSSS, in short is the second official welfare society of the Diocese of Tuticorin established in the year 2000. As the Tuticorin Multipurpose Social Service Society has to cover nearly 1200 villages from three districts, another society was found to be essential and so the VMSSS was established to serve more closely and creatively to the people from Nanguneri, Vallioor, Kalakkad and Radhapurum blocks of Tirunelveli district, Sathankulam and Sri Vaikundam, Alwarthirunagari and Udangudi blocks of Tuticorin district, and Agatheeswaram block of Kanyakumari district.
At VMSSS, it is our mandate and mantra to work with the people, for the people and in total alignment with the government schemes and guidelines.
There is no doubt that there is no lack of thinking processes by bright minds that result in robust schemes and governmental guidelines to execute on blueprints. Our challenge, as the largest democracy, has always been the gaps in the execution – arguably not surprising in a country as diverse and vast as ours.
As a responsible and committed NGO, VMSSS believes in working in tandem with the local administration and central direction, facilitating the execution of our admirable, ambitious schemes and ensuring community participation for sustainability and ownership.
Our Goals are in line with the UN Global Goals and perfectly aligned people’s needs and administrative guidelines.
